What are the differences between dome and bullet type cameras?
When I first started my career in CCTV installation, I used to buy cameras from a local supplier. I had no idea about dome and bullet cameras. All I knew was that bullet cameras are popular outdoor cameras and dome cameras are more often used indoor. If you are just like me when I started, you may also have the same question.
Is it better buying dome or bullet cameras?
I believe there are few things to consider before buying the CCTV camera.
What are the technical differences between dome and bullet cameras?
The answer is none. You can buy two cameras, dome and bullet, and they can have the same specification. It is only the shape of the camera or housing. The difference is a lot to do with the field of view. Bullet cameras give an extended field of view, bullet cameras also come with a bracket which can be used in extending and adjusting the camera’s view.
Where do you want to mount the camera?
If it is on the ceiling then dome cameras are a popular option. If it is on the wall, then bullet cameras are more popular.
Advantages and disadvantages of Dome Cameras
When dome cameras are installed, it is quite hard to find blind spots. If blinds are used with the cameras, it is quite hard to guess a camera’s view. This can help in reducing the number of cameras installed.
If a dome camera is installed outside to point at an entrance, it may also pick the wall, however with a bullet camera you can adjust the bracket and point at an entrance.
