What Is an Anti-Intrusion System?

First of all, we need to define what this system is. The most basic way to explain what a security system is is actually through the name itself. It is a method of security that will give your house a high level of protection through advanced technology systems put into place. In this instance of security, it will involve a network of integrated electronic devices working together with a control panel to protect against any potential home intruders and burglars.

The Components

Some of the basic elements of a home security system includes:

  • Door and window sensors
  • Wired or wireless security cameras
  • Motion sensors, both interior and exterior
  • A siren or alarm
  • A control panel (the most important element)

How Does It Work?

Most security systems work on the same basic principle of securing entry points like doors and windows. However there is also a lot more to it. Sensors need to be installed so that motion can be detected and these sensors then have to communicate this to the central control panel. This control panel will have to be installed in a convenient and easily accessible location from within the home.

The Breakdown

Door and Window Sensors

  • These sensors consist of two parts which are installed adjacent to each other. One part is installed on the door or window itself and the other part is installed on the door frame or window sill. When the door or windows are closed, the two parts of the sensor are joined together, creating this security circuit.
  • The sensors will ultimately communicate with the control panel to report whether the point of entry is secure or not. If a monitored door or window is opened, the security circuit will then be broken causing an alarm to be sounded as the control panel has interpreted this as a breach of security. The alarm monitoring company will then be automatically notified.

Wired/Wireless Security Cameras

  • Surveillance cameras can be used for many reasons and in many different ways in a security system. Some notable uses of them include monitoring difficult areas within your property that are hard to see, entry points such as garage or front doors and remote buildings like garages, workshops etc.
  • The access to these cameras can be done remotely through computers, smartphones and tablets. This is a common use of monitoring for when you are away from the home and have access to people approaching your house whether that be your children or the delivery man. Security breaches can also be recorded so if an event like a burglary were to take place, the homeowners would have a better idea of what the intruders look like and their vehicle.

Motion Sensors

  • These sensors will protect a particular zone that will not sound an alarm but will notify quietly. These are usually installed into rooms which contain valuable items as well as other areas in the house that are not typically approached in larger homes.

Sirens/Alarms

  • Alarms can be served for a few different purposes. First of all, they will alert the people inside the house that there is a problem. Secondly they will alert the neighbours and people from outside that there is an issue due to it’s high pitch sound.

Control Panels

  • The panel is in charge of managing the whole security system. It will arm and disarm the security system, communicate with all of the system’s different parts, sound the alarm when the security system is breached and inform the alarm monitoring company.
  • This will normally feature a touchpad that pass codes are entered to arm and disarm the system. As well as this, voice commands can be implemented and even can be programmed to work with a wireless remote control known as a key fob.
