Inspectorate bodies in Alarm Installation

According to the association of chief police officer (ACPO) an inspection or governing body for an alarm

installation company should be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). The role of a governing body is to provide inspection and approval for alarm installation companies.

The main governing bodies who inspect and approve alarm installation companies are National Security Inspectorate (NSI) and Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB). They operate different schemes to cater different types of installers, for example NSI has Gold and Silver status and SSAIB also have several schemes.

What does it take to be a member of an alarm governing body?

NSI and SSAIB operate slightly different to each other. NSI provides a service across the United Kingdom and beyond. NSI is an independent non-profit organisation who approves and monitors alarm installation companies. NSI mission is to safeguard the customer by raising the standard of alarm installations and maintenance in the UK and in other countries.

NSI is highly trusted in Alarm installation by government bodies and large institutions, as police will only give a response to an installer when he is registered with either NSI or SSAIB.

Any security installer covered by either NSI or SSAIB qualify to connect his system with a police response. When it comes to commercial alarm installation, it is often required by the insurer.
